Easter 2025: Our Unforgettable Family Adventure at The Ocean House Rhode Island

A family trip to the Ocean House in Rhode Island for Easter 2025 was exactly what we needed. Nestled along the stunning shores of Watch Hill, this luxurious resort promised relaxation, adventure, and quality family time. We were so excited to finally experience Ocean House after trying to plan it for years!

With its rich history, breathtaking views, and a touch of southern New England charm, Ocean House quickly became the perfect destination for our spring retreat. The weather was especially kind to us for this weekend which made the experience even more perfect!

Arriving at Ocean House

Pulling up to the Ocean House, the impressive Victorian architecture immediately took our breath away. The property overlooks the expansive Atlantic Ocean, enhancing its allure. Upon arrival, the warm, welcoming staff greeted us with smiles, making us feel right at home.

After checking in, we admired the hotel's beautiful decor that seamlessly blends modern luxury with historic charm. Our room was a club suite with an extensive balcony that presented stunning views of the shimmering sea along with a gas fireplace for those cooler evenings.

Exploring the Local Area - Watch Hill Rhode Island

After settling in, we wasted no time exploring the local area. The stores were just beginning to open up for season with several still not open but St. Clair's was open! St. Clairs Annex has a to go window for sandwiches as well as ice cream. Our 4 year old devoured it! Easter was late this year but I would imagine that when Easter is earlier in April that the town may still be shuttered. Something to keep in mind is that Watch Hill does not really fully "open" until after memorial day.

In addition, we visited the iconic Watch Hill Lighthouse, a landmark that has guided sailors since 1856. The short walk to the rocky shore was refreshing, and the sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks added to the serene atmosphere.

Easter Activities at Ocean House/Weekapaug Inn

We arrived on Friday to Ocean House and had already preplanned several events. On Saturday, we made our way to the sister resort of Weekapaug Inn to do their easter egg hunt as we had to leave on Sunday right before the egg hunt at Ocean House. I was grateful to see Weekapaug Inn because it reaffirmed my decision to stay at Ocean House. Weekapaug did a great job spreading out the eggs - while some parents I have decided are bigger bullies than their children. They also had baby bunnies to play with ahead of time as well as cookies to celebrate after the hunt.

We headed back to Ocean House as we had to have lunch and head down to the Mystic Penguins Ice Cream Social. The setup for this event was great as everyone had their own table and you could help yourself to as much as ice cream as you desire. The Penguins had their own guide that engaged with the audience by providing fun facts and the audience was allowed to ask their own questions.

Our last Easter activity for Saturday was easter egg decorating. They had a local artist come with all supplies that you could possibly need to create your own easter egg. This was a great activity if you have a real crafty young one - my 4 year old enjoyed it but lost interest!

Unforunately we were going to miss the egg hunt at Ocean House due to our flight timing but one of the employees gave us a basket with eggs and set one up in our room/balcony. It was a great surprise and really speaks to how family friendly the resort is!

Dining at Ocean House

We did not participate in the large ballroom brunch but I want to highlight some notable dining choices that are available even outside of Easter!

Breakfast at the Bistro was perfect. Both mornings we had a great waitstaff that helped entertain our 4 year old and the food was perfect. We were seated right as they opened and it was such a nice spot before it got too busy. I would recommend getting there early especially on holiday weekends as you truly get to enjoy the space.

Lunch at the Club Lounge - given we were staying in a club room we had access for lunch to the club lounge. For lunch, there is not a specific dress requirement but if you are staying for dinner you need to have a jacket even for the kids. Therefore, we opted out of dinner and enjoyed the lunch! It is the same menu as the Bistro for lunch but in a much smaller space where you really get to talk to waitstaff. We had the whole place to our selves for the first twenty minutes as some others began to trickle in.

Dinner at Bistro - we had made these reservations early as we knew it was going to be busy but dinner did not disappoint. As a florida native, my husband said those were the best oysters he has ever had! My son also ate his meal which is pretty remarkable. We would definitely eat here again. We chose not to do the Coast restaurant because we knew the menu would be limited but also we really would not be able to enjoy it as we were working on a toddler timetable!

The other dinner night we went out to S&P Oyster in Mystic which we have been to before and it was great - highly recommend.

Accomodations at Ocean House

We stayed in the Club King Room on our vacation. Keep in mind we only brought our 4 year old and my mom stayed at home with our 1.5 year old. The Club King Room has a king size bed and a twin pull out so it was perfect for our trip. I believe they only have two of these rooms and the next time we visit we will bring along our daughter as well so we won't fit! Bummer!

Pro Tip: The Club King room gives you a lof of value at a reasonable cost. You get access to the club lounge which is great as well as access to the greater balcony. I could see this room being loud in the middle of summer but for off season it was absolutely great.
